Atlas

Atlas summoning his rumblers.
/Shrug

Overview: Want a durable jack-of-all-trades that can summon golems, throw boulders, pretend to be a gorgon and cast fist? Complete The Jordas Precept quest for the blueprint, and slay the Jordas Golem for a chance at his component parts.

Prime: Atlas prime is currently available, with the relics dropping in missions or from syndicate relic reward packs. The prime version comes with improved shields, health, armour, energy and sprint speed.

Special: Atlas can pick up rubble from Petrified foes or summoned Rumblers, restoring lost health or gaining bonus armour if uninjured. Furthermore, Atlas cannot be knocked down while touching the ground.

Pros: Durable and simple to use, able to summon minions or a rock barrier to block incoming damage – and can even generate additional loot via an augment.

Cons: Fairly simplistic and lacks the raw area damage of frames like Volt, Ember or Saryn. Also, not as durable as Inaros, Valkyr or Grendel – in essence, Atlas is a bit of everything, but doesn’t really excel in any single area.

Powers: Use Landslide (1) to crash into foes, becoming invulnerable during the charge and dealing area impact damage, improved by your equipped melee weapon mods. This can actually reach pretty high damage numbers (and can be chain-cast for a damage multiplier) but unfortunately has poor (5%) status and critical hit chance. Try the Path of Statues augment to leave an area of petrifying ground when casting, or use the Rubble Heap augment with 1400+ rubble to double the damage and distance while costing nothing to cast! Consider using a melee weapon with a high-disposition riven mod, as it will confer it’s bonuses to Landslide – syndicate mods will also confer their bonuses.

Tectonics (2) lets you summon a barrier of rock to block enemy movement, and can be cast again to turn the wall into a rolling boulder if you want to pretend you’re Indiana Jones. The Tectonic Fracture augment allows you to conjure up to three walls, but removes the ability to launch a boulder. Use this ability to block choke points or provide cover for an exposed objective.

Petrify (3) turns enemies in your sight to brittle stone, holding them in place and making them more vulnerable to damage. Petrified targets drop rubble when slain and take more damage from Landslide (1) while a petrified boulder from Tectonics (2) will deal more damage. The Ore Gaze augment will scan petrified enemies and give them a chance to drop additional loot!

Rumblers (4) summons a pair of golems to fight on behalf of Atlas and collapse into rubble when expiring – use them to distract opponents or provide healing. You can use the Titanic Rumbler augment to summon a single, larger golem that can be reactivated to slam the ground for area damage. You could also try the Rumbled augment, turning you into a Rumbler with limited movement and damage options but a thick layer of ablative health.

Opinion: Honestly I find Atlas a bit dull. He’s a perfectly adequate frame, but if feels like he’s lacking anything showy. He works well as a fairly tough jack-of-all-trades, and his augment mods provide a good amount of options – so while I don’t personally enjoy Atlas, I wouldn’t warn you away from playing him either – certainly, some players think he rocks. Expect him to perform well in high level missions (i.e. Steel Path) where his high potential damage, invulnerability frames and crowd control can be a real asset. Otherwise, survival and assassination missions are probably his forte, though he’s hardly useless elsewhere.
