Build Concept: Burning Bones

This Scion/Witch build makes use of minions to do the heavy lifting, while periodically bathing the battlefield in flames. There’s no need for uniques to make this build work.

Key Passives: You’ll want to focus on anything that boosts minion health and damage, the passive ‘Spiritual Aid’ near the Templar area and the ‘Minion Instability’ passive just up from it. Using these passives, we get to apply our minion damage bonuses to our own powers, and our minions will detonate when badly injured for fire damage.

Skeletons: Support Raise Skeletons with an Infernal Legion gem to make your skeletons deal area fire damage over time and rapidly lose health, triggering the instability explosion. Combine with an Unleash gem to summon a horde of these walking bombs on demand. Cheap and effective.

Zombies: Support Raise Zombie with Added Fire Damage and Elemental Army to add a nice chunk of fire damage and reduced fire resistance to your zombie attacks, thus boosting the damage of your skeleton bombs. Synergistic and simple.

Incinerate: Support Incinerate with Combustion to deal rapid area fire hits that can ignite the victims and inflict a further fire resistance penalty.

Curses: Flammability is the obvious choice, though you could add in Elemental Weakness if you have gear or passives allowing an extra active curse.

Ascendancy: I went for the Chieftain and Necromancer nodes of the Ascendant, giving a variety of buffs to minions and a chance to apply Ash when hitting rare or unique enemies (Incinerate hits very often) to increase fire damage taken. You can also directly benefit from Offering skills, which is a nice bonus. If you choose to go as a Witch instead, any of the ascendancy choices can work – Elementalist for personal damage and an extra golem, Necromancer for minion buffs or Occultist for a curse-heavy set up.

Opinion: By capitalising on fire damage, you can take advantage of gems like combustion to synergistically lower the resistance of targets – and thanks to the minion-master nature of this build, enemies tend to attack your meatshields rather than you. Consider using ‘Bone Offering’ to increase the block chance of yourself and your minions – I linked this to a ‘Cast When Damage Taken’ gem and ‘Steelskin’ for an emergency durability boost. You can also easily fit the keystone passive ‘Mind Over Matter’ into the build, helping you absorb the odd unfortunate hit. I’ve found this to be a pretty solid build so far, being incredibly cheap to make and very easy to play.
