Elder Scrolls Online: Block, Bash, Dodge & Damage Shields

If you start looking at hunting world bosses, doing PvP or the trickier dungeons, you’ll want to start making use of the active defensive tools available to every character. Block: Activated by holding right-mouse by default (you should see a little shield appear in front of your character) to reduce incoming damage by 50% or better. Every time you block an attack, you will lose some stamina – and you will not recover stamina while blocking. PvE enemies can wind up an attack, generating golden sparks as they do so – these attacks will typically deal high damage and stun … Continue reading Elder Scrolls Online: Block, Bash, Dodge & Damage Shields

Elder Scrolls Online: Critical Strikes

Critical hits can vastly increase the damage you deal in PvE content, or provide the unpredictable burst you need to take out a hardy build in PvP. Critical Chance: Split into spell and weapon critical, this is simply the percentage chance that any attack will be counted as a critical and thus deal additional damage. Note, if an ability costs Magicka (or Health) to cast it will count as a spell, Stamina abilities count as weapon. Class Skills: Certain classes can obtain the prophecy or savagery buffs from passive abilities (i.e. critical hits from a Nightblade can grant the minor … Continue reading Elder Scrolls Online: Critical Strikes

Elder Scrolls Online: Resistance & Penetration

Penetration and resistance are extremely important for an effective combatant in Elder Scrolls Online – but poorly explained. Resistance Effect: Your resistance values are split into spell (elemental/magic) and physical (physical/disease/poison) and reduce the damage you take from attacks of those types. It takes roughly 660 resistance to reduce incoming damage by 1%, and reaches a “soft” cap at 33000 or 50% damage reduction. Resistance Sources: If you want to increase your resistance ratings, you have a few options available: Armour: All armour provides both physical and spell resistance equal to the armour rating Traits: The reinforced armour trait and … Continue reading Elder Scrolls Online: Resistance & Penetration

Kitguns and Zaws

Custom weapons for the discerning Tenno, zaws and kitguns are assembled from a selection of components, allowing you to tailor their function, speed, recoil, critical/status chance balance and looks. Gilding: Levelling a custom weapon is pretty simple, but does have a coupe of things you should be aware of. When you first create a weapon, you will not be able to install an Orokin reactor/forma or change the colour scheme. Level it to 30 and you can take it back to the merchant you bought it from and gild it – this will unlock all those options, allow you to … Continue reading Kitguns and Zaws

Guide: Duty Officers & Admiralty

Remember all the side projects that crew members take part in in the shows? The duty officer system allows you to send crewmen on assignments ranging from military assaults to impromptu concerts, allowing you to obtain minerals, equipment or black-market goods for your personal use. It’s not just the captain that goes on missions, there’s plenty of redshirts dying to go on an expedition! Recruitment: At level 11, you’ll receive the “First Compliment” mission that’ll grant you a package of basic duty officers. These are pretty low quality though, so you’ll want to pick up some recruitment assignments from Starfleet … Continue reading Guide: Duty Officers & Admiralty

Elder Scrolls Online: Player Housing

Player housing has been a feature of the Elder Scrolls universe for a long time, and online is no exception! For a consideration of gold, you can unlock one (or more) of these properties for storing items, crafting or even just furnishing to your tastes! Elder Scrolls Online: Mundus Stones

Strange standing stones dot the landscape of Tamriel, each capable of granting a boon of power to an intrepid adventurer. Mundus stones: These can be found in overworld zones – all you need to do is to interact with one and it will grant you a permanent bonus. You are limited to having a single stone bonus at any given time, but you can change your current one with no cooldown or cost by interacting with another stone. If you prefer PvP content, all of the stones except The Lord can be found in Cyrodiil. The Apprentice: Increased spell damage … Continue reading Elder Scrolls Online: Mundus Stones

Elder Scrolls Online: Player Races

The basic version of Elder Scrolls Online comes with nine races available, three for each of the alliances a player can be. Buying certain account upgrades can unlock the imperial race or allow you to use a race outside of their normal alliance, but this is just going to summarise the core races. Note: Thanks to the “One Tamriel” update, your alliance only matters in Cyrodiil – you can quest/explore wherever you like at any level. The Aldmeri dominion comprises of high elves, wood elves and cat-folk, formed into a loose alliance intending to prevent the “young races” forming an … Continue reading Elder Scrolls Online: Player Races

Destiny 2

A sci-fi shooter that adds pseudo-mystical powers to the mix, you can play the base game for free on Steam with a premium charged for expansions. Good: The obvious thing to start with are the classes. Titan acts as a heavy duty close range brawler with an elemental theme, Hunter is an agile assassin and Warlock provides a mixture of showy support and damage spells. Each class also has it’s own sub-classes (a Warlock could choose to be a life-draining Voidwalker, arc-throwing Stormcaller or the flame-wielding Dawnblade) allowing you to customise your play-style. Finally, each class has their own movement … Continue reading Destiny 2

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

In a time of great innovation, step into the shoes of Adam Jensen, security consultant at Sarif Industries, leaders in the controversial field of human augmentation… Good: The general plot of this game is pretty good, capturing the feel of scheming mega-corps and cabals trading humanity for coin and power. Secret societies, plot twists, human greed and fear in the face of advancing technology… it’s a heady mix. Furthermore, the sound design and visuals do a good job of giving the impression you’re in a sci-fi movie, and they really add to the experience. In terms of actual gameplay, I … Continue reading Deus Ex: Human Revolution
