Overview: Bring the flame of day or the cloak of night with Equinox, an adaptive sorceress with an answer for almost anything. Equinox is two frames in one, and you’ll have to repeatedly battle Tyl Regor on Uranus to obtain the eight required components.
Prime: Equinox Prime is currently vaulted, so you’ll have to ask friends and clanmates if they have relics, try your luck on the trading channel or wait for an unvaulting event. Equinox Prime boasts improved health, armour and energy capacity.
Special: Gain 10% of healing from health orbs as energy, and 10% of energy from energy orbs as health. Not the most exciting of passives, but it can provide an extra dribble of energy when used with Synth Deconstruct on a companion.
Pros: Powerful crowd-control, massive damage potential, ability to heal allies, more powers than standard and higher than average energy pool.
Cons: Can be fiddly to use as switching forms deactivates some powers, can be extremely energy hungry and she has mediocre defences when not using powers.
Powers: Equinox varies her powers depending on whether she is in Day or Night form – you can switch forms using Metamorphosis (1) and gain a short shield/armour buff if switching to Night, or a a weapon/movement buff is switching to Day. Try the Duality augment mod to summon a duplicate of yourself armed with your current gun, fully modded and with a 300% damage multiplier for 10 seconds on casting! Duality is a powerful augment that doesn’t rely on power strength, but swapping forms frequently can interfere with other powers.
Use Rest (2) in night form to put groups of enemies to sleep, leaving them open to finisher attacks, or use Rage (2) in day form to frenzy enemies, increasing their movement and attacks but increasing the damage they take – the Calm and Frenzy augment will spread this effect to nearby enemies when you slay an affected target.
Pacify and Provoke (3) emits an aura that drains energy for each enemy/ability affected. In night form, nearby enemies have their damage dramatically reduced, while day form provides additional power strength to allies using abilities. The Peaceful Provocation augment will add a slow effect in night form or bonus power strength in day, and both effects will improve as you kill enemies.
Mend and Maim (4) drains energy to emit an aura that either (night) restores shields when killing foes or (day) inflicts a bleed status effect. Mend and Maim (4) also stores a portion of the damage dealt to nearby enemies that is released as a burst of (night) health and shield restoration or (day) slash damage when deactivated. The Energy Transfer augment will allow you to use Metamorphosis (1) without expending the accumulated damage.
Duplicator Build: A simple build that uses the Duality augment for Metamorphosis (1) along with a decent bit of ability duration. Whenever you cast Metamorphosis (1) you will generate a spectre that uses your currently equipped weapon with a 300% damage modifier. Try using it with semi-automatic weapons (the spectre will fan the trigger, leading to an insane fire rate) or with low-ammo explosives (the spectre doesn’t use ammo) or an Acid Shells Sobek, as the scaling explosion after a kill also gets the damage multiplier.
Maim Bomber Build: By using Mend and Main (4) in Day form you will generate an aura of slashing damage that inflicts a small bleed effect when enemies come in range, while being drained of 3.5 energy per second. In addition, you will store a portion of the shields and health of enemies slain inside the aura, converting it in to slashing damage you can release by deactivating the aura. The damage of the pulse can reach absurd heights very quickly if you use a decent weapon. Ability strength only applies to the initial bleed, rather than the massive killing wave of energy on deactivation – you’d be best served using ability range mods (more enemies in the aura = more stored damage and more caught in the explosion) along with ability efficiency and duration (efficiency reduces the drain per second, duration reduces how often you have to pay the drain) and you might want to include the Energy Transfer augment so you can swap between Night and Day forms without losing your stored damage.
Opinion: Equinox has something to bring to almost every situation, with great damage, support and control options. You can also make some interesting builds based on her augment mods i.e. take Duality with good power strength and use something like the Sobek with the Acid Shells mod to do horrifying area damage. She is a nuisance to acquire though, and she’s not the simplest frame to use well – so I’d say she’s a good frame, but probably not for a beginner. Expect her to do well in most missions where her massive area damage and crowd control can carry the day, but especially well in defence and survival.
