Overview: One of (if not the) best defence frames in the game, Frost applies crowd control, damage, support and a spherical shield of ice in combat. He’s not fast on his feet, but who needs to dodge when the enemy is frozen solid? You can pick up Frost in the dual boss fight on Ceres.
Prime: Frost prime is currently vaulted, meaning that you’ll need to ask friends and clanmates if they have relics, consult the trade channel or wait for an unvaulting event.
Special: Melee attackers have a 10% chance to be frozen. A very poor passive that might as well not exist. On the plus side, you can equip the Biting Cold augment for a huge critical chance and damage boost against frozen enemies – and as a Frost, you should be freezing people a lot!
Pros: Good base armour and shield, very good utility in powers, Snow Globe (3) scales with enemy damage and makes most defence and mobile defence missions a joke, Avalanche (4) can partially remove armour, interesting augment mods for even more utility.
Cons: Sluggish movement, tends to fare better when entrenched in an area rather than moving around, can be very energy hungry.
Powers: Hurl a snowball with Freeze (1) that deals are cold damage and freezes those directly hit. The Freeze Force augment allows you to charge the ability, granting yourself and allies bonus cold damage.
Ice Wave (2) can do a decent amount of damage and force a cold status effect in an arc, but can become a powerful crowd control with the Ice Wave Impedance augment to leave a patch of freezing ground to cripple enemies.
Snow Globe (3) forms a barrier to protect your allies or an objective, with scaling health based on your armour and incoming fire during it’s formation period. You can maintain up to four globes, can repair a globe by recasting while inside one or destroy one by casting Freeze (1) from outside one. Enemies inside the globe are chilled, but if you use the Chilling Globe augment, they have a chance to be frozen solid.
Avalanche (4) deals heavy cold damage in a wide area while reducing enemy armour and freezing victims in place. Slain Enemies will shatter, dealing radial cold damage, and you can add the Icy Avalanche augment to apply status effect immunity and ablative health to allies depending on how many enemies you hit.
Opinion: Frost is a powerful frame, but you have to think to use him effectively – for example, Snow Globe (3) is almost always detrimental in an infested mission, as it blocks your teammates gunfire and forces them to get close enough to be hit. That said, Frost can really make a difference when played thoughtfully, and I’d say that he’s a solid frame to use as long as you stay on the ball. Expect him to excel in defence, mobile defence and excavation missions.
