Ivara

If you go down to the woods today…

Overview: Prowl through missions picking off targets with trick arrows, or cause carnage with one of the most powerful weapons in the game – If this sounds fun, steal the components and blueprint from successful spy missions!

Prime: With higher shields, armour, energy and sprint speed, Ivara prime is a little tougher but still relies on Prowl (3) to avoid harm. I recommend the following mission for farming her relics:

  • Blueprint: Hepit (Void) capture with a 11.11% chance.
  • Neuroptics: Mot (Void) survival with an 11.11% chance at 5 and 10 minutes.
  • Chassis: Hepit (Void) capture with a 11.11% chance.
  • Systems: Hepit (Void) capture with a 11.11% chance.
  • Syndicates can also offer these in their relic packs.

Special: Sense enemies within a thirty meter radius, and cycle through trick arrows using her first ability by tapping rather than holding cast.

Pros: Can stay in Prowl (3) by stealing from nearby enemies, summoned bow deals incredible damage, special arrows can provide mobility, stealth, distractions and crowd control.

Cons: Prowl (3) is broken by fast movement or firing a loud weapon, comparatively fragile when visible, slow and sneaky gameplay may feel superfluous in public games.

Powers: Select trick arrows from your Quiver (1) deploying a dashwire, cloak, noise or sleep effect – powerful tools for an inventive player. Add the Empowered Quiver augment to grant bonus critical damage to allies on your dashwire, or status effect resistance to allies in your cloak. Another option is the Power of Three augment, launching 3 arrows for 20 extra energy.

Assume direct control of the next projectile you fire with Navigator (2) draining your energy to pilot it around. It’s not incredibly useful, but can be handy in both spy and Eidolon missions. The Piercing Navigator augment will allow the projectile to pierce enemies and adds critical chance for every foe hit. This is a very niche ability, but can let you do interesting things with thrown explosives or melee weapons like the glaive.

Slink around the map in Prowl (3) which channels energy to render you invisible – you’ll have restricted movement (though rolling can help) and will briefly de-cloak when using a non-silent weapon, but will gain a multiplier to headshot damage and the ability to pickpocket nearby foes for an additional drop. I highly recommend the Infiltrate augment, since it speeds you up and lets you ignore security barriers when prowling. Note that the this ability drains additional energy when moving, taking damage or performing a melee attack.

Finally, cast Artemis Bow (4) to summon a lethal exalted weapon that launches a cone of arrows with every shot – you can change the orientation of the spray by charging the shot as if it were a normal bow. This weapon does monstrous amounts of damage but costs energy for each volley launched. Aspiring snipers may want to try the Concentrated Arrow to fire a single shot that (when striking the head) gains a flat 50% bonus critical chance and explodes for significant damage in a 7m radius.

Opinion: Ivara is a pretty interesting frame, but she suffers when forced to keep pace with a group. Superb for spy/rescue missions, and decent in survival/defence situations where she can set up wires and stay in Prowl (3) to keep herself safe. She’s also capable of dishing out a great deal of pain via Artemis Bow (4) though it can leave her energy-starved.
