Overview: Wukong is based on the deity of the same name, able to duplicate himself, ride a cloud or simply hand out beatings with his iron staff. Research and build him in the Tenno lab of your clan dojo if you want to get up to some monkey business.
Special: Three times per mission, Wukong can cheat death by becoming invulnerable for 2 seconds, restoring 50% of his health and gaining a random buff for a brief period:
- Primal Forces: 300% elemental damage for 60 seconds
- Heavenly Cloak: Invisibility for 30 seconds
- Cosmic Armour: Invulnerability for 30 seconds
- Monkey Luck: Kills generate extra loot for 60 seconds
- Sly Alchemy: Orbs grant 400% of their normal effect for 60 seconds
Pros: Above average health, armour and energy capacity, very durable, Celestial Twin (1) can be a helpful distraction and Cloud Walker (2) can be handy in stealth missions.
Cons: Poor team player with no real squad utility (the ability to taunt enemies isn’t really good enough) and can be a bit dull to use.
Powers: Double your trouble with Celestial Twin (1) summoning a permanent clone to perform melee attacks when you are shooting or lay down fire when you engage in hand-to-hand. This clone benefits from your equipped mods (as well as any power you cast) and thus can be rather dangerous. Recasting this power will mark a target, causing the clone to focus on them and deal double damage. The Celestial Stomp augment lets you hold the ability key and cause the duplicate to slam the ground, lifting enemies in a wide radius for a small energy cost.
Cloud Walker (2) transforms Wukong into a dazing cloud, allowing you to move rapidly without regard to gravity while stunning anything you move through. In this state, you and your Celestial Twin (1) are rapidly healed, cleansed of status effects and are immune to further damage – you can also bypass laser barriers and security cameras. Add in the Enveloping Cloud augment to grant nearby allies invisibility for a short period.
Defy (3) taunts nearby enemies to attack Wukong while making him invulnerable for 2 seconds. Upon expiration, Wukong will cleanse any negative status effects on himself and strike nearby foes with a sweep of his staff, dealing 7.5 times the damage he should have taken, while granting himself an armour bonus based on the damage absorbed by this ability. If you have Celestial Twin (1) active, it will copy this ability for the same bonuses.
Primal Fury (4) swaps out your melee weapon for an iron staff, dealing high damage with a good critical and status chance at the cost of 5 energy per second – if Celestial Twin (1) is active, it will also equip the staff. Like all exalted weapons, this can be equipped with mods in your arsenal. You could also try the Primal Rage augment, granting the staff 15% bonus critical chance for every kill up to 150% and decaying when you stop killing for 5 seconds.
Opinion: Wukong certainly has his uses – he’s tough, his Celestial Twin (1) and Primal Fury (4) can put out significant damage, Cloud Walker (2) gives him a stealth option and Defy (3) can add a lot of durability. On the downside, he doesn’t do much to help his squad – you could argue that he draws damage away, but many frames can take a beating or avoid being struck in the first place. His passive is nice in Arbitration missions since it bypasses the no-revives effect, but other than that, he doesn’t feel as though he stands out. He should do well enough in survival, exterminate and spy missions though, while being a great choice for the Solo player.
